Cruising on the Labrador Sea
What a wonderful 7-course dinner we enjoyed last night with 6 other guests. True to her word, Katerina provided a couple of bottles of a wonderful red wine, Siete fincas Secreto, Cabernet Franc 2013 Reserva. We had to share it with some of the other guests but there was plenty to go around. Hannah, our waitress, made sure we got our share! The meal was prepared by a young South African chef who trained in the Nobu Restaurants aboard the Crystal Serenity. I can't begin to describe all the wonderful flavours we experienced in each dish. Each was plated and looked too good to eat. First was a small salad, followed by the most delicious miso soup with chicken livers and vegetables, then a soya pudding made with salmon roe and wasabi, wonderful dumplings, wagu beef and vegetables, a rice dish and finally dessert. My description does not do the meal justice. The chef began days ago making stock, etc. Akira, you would have loved it. I would have taken pictures of all the courses but left my camera in the room.
This morning after breakfast, we tried out the steam shower, followed by a cold shower, then another bask in the steam and another cold shower. Back to the room for a nap followed by a lunch of pizza and salad which we had in the Azure Cafe. I wasn't as impressed by this meal. We took some time after lunch to explore the boutique, investigate the dinner menu at Koko's (looks nummy), up to the top deck for a look-see, and then to the gym where the most God-awful music(?) was playing. Needless to say we didn't spend much time there. A good excuse not to exercise until I return.
Back in our room we decided to enjoy another little lie-down but were interrupted twice by maintenance men and a third time by the Restaurant Manager who invited us for dinner at the Chef's Table. I mentioned that we had a reservation at Lumiere tonight but once she explained that this was a special meal that didn't happen every day and was by invitation only, we accepted with alacrity. We meet at reception at 7 to be escorted to the private dining room which seats 10. Will update everyone tomorrow on this experience. I sense Katerina's hand in securing us this invitation. The Manager promised us another reservation at Lumiere.
We were so excited that we decided to have another steam bath.. The temperature had climbed to 49 degrees and it was too hot to breathe. We had the temperature adjusted downward.
Back in the room, we are busy deciding what to wear to the Chef's Table dinner tonight.
Great excitement in Room 606 as we have been watching sea birds and spotted a Greater Shearwater - a new bird for the trip and maybe a lifer!
